Aylin Myumyunova is a Professional Freelance Artist and visited Cyprus 14 years ago as tourist but stayed permanently, absorbed by the enormous amount of animals in need. Beautiful sunny island on the Mediterranean with friendly welcoming people but not enough education on ethical treatment of its animals. No government implementation on Animal Welfare laws. She struggled long years to rescue, foster and find good homes. Because of the small human population the chance for the animals to be adopted in Cyprus is about 2%. Only in the South of Cyprus 250 000 dogs end up on the street every year especially during and after hunting season. They die from starvation or being poisoned. The Government doesn’t apply any rules on Microchiping, Breeding control or Fines on cruel living conditions. The struggle of the Rescuers is at Enormous level. Stray Cats and Dogs are in every corner. This is an ongoing battle which becomes more and more difficult ... Rescuers are expected to collect the animals in need, look after them and pay their vet bills. Lin also runs Municipal shelter on her own , basically serving the entire community for free. 99% of dogs aren’t microchipped and are petrified by humans. Their recovery process takes long. The Cyprus Government shows zero responsibility! In fact They are happy that vets generate more income from us so they can get more tax. The problem with stray cats is beyond any control.

Pregnant malnourished mothers deliver most times weak – sick kittens who most often get runover or die from the lack of nutritious. Sometimes over population of cats in specific areas is controlled by poisoning by individuals who never seem to get caught. This method is beyond barbaric and in order to prevent it We rescuers trip over to be trying to spay as many cats as we can so we save them from suffering. But sadly this is a drop in the ocean. The situation will not change until ongoing Free sterilisation clinics are introduced in each big city. Usually people worry in affording one animal... With rescuers like Lin worry has been a daily reality for the hundreds of animals she saved and the damage on her psychology and finance is at a grate level. She can not battle by herself only. Support this cause please and be a part of rescue.
